Quality Control Inspector
Quality control inspectors perform inspections of fabricated structural steel; to include periodic and continuous inspection of welding, weld fit-up, dimensional inspection of cuts, copes, camber, and holes on holes only beams, plain material, angles, and ship loose pieces, both in-process and final, to ensure pieces meet drawing requirements.
Other duties include; Using detailed drawings for information to inspect. Recording daily inspections on Q.C. Travelers. Performing paint thickness inspections. Working with Senior Inspector and Shop Quality Manager to resolve daily issues. Helping maintain flow of work thru the shop. Performing inspection of simple and complex parts using applicable drawings. Working with other departments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Ability to read blueprints and fabrication details
- Able to read and understand welding symbols
- Able to perform weld inspections
- Ability to write legibly using various markers
- Able to move parts with cranes and on carts
- Able to operate a forklift
- Ability to read and use tape measures, squares and other measuring devices
- Ability to work within tolerances
- Willing to ask questions when unsure
- Ability to effectively complete required documentation
- Ability to work well with others
- Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting work priorities, and change
- Perform other duties as assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Good English skills. Able to speak, read and understand
- Good verbal and written communication skills (both in the quality department as well as production team)
- CAWI
- 3-5 years experience in the structural steel industry
- 3-5 years experience working from blueprints
- Prior experience in Quality Control is desired
- Level 1 training in UT
- Knowledge of CT&C Fabrications QM and QC procedures
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards
- Skill in completing required documentation
- Skill in organizing drawings and information
- Ability to learn new procedures
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings drawn in, but not limited to AUTOCAD
- High School diploma or equivalent is preferred MBS and SDS
